The FL125 Greatest Player voting shortlists were compiled from data submitted by Football League clubs, which was collected from fans through social media. Supporters were asked to submit their suggestions by interacting with their respective clubs through Twitter, using #FL125 and #OurGreatestPlayer.

The nominees were:

Carl Baker - Player who moved on to Stockport for a large fee and excelled further to earn a move to Coventry where he has become an integral player for them.

Jim Bentley - Captain when the Shrimps joined the League and now the manager. A leader on the pitch and now off it as well and a fans favourite.

Joe Lewis - Goalkeeper came on loan for half a season but made a massive impression before earning England honours.

Mark Duffy - Another signing from Southport who improved season by season and moved up the pyramid to Scunthorpe and then Doncaster.

Stewart Drummond - The Shrimps' most experienced player who despite being in his late 30s is still one of the fittest players at the club. A model professional.

The nominations were:

2009/10 - A late surge saw the Shrimps claim a Play-Off place against all expectations. Unfortunately their hopes were dashed after a heavy play off defeat Dagenham.

2008/09 - The Shrimps finished 11th with their second highest ever points tally of 63. 

2007/08 - An exciting first ever season in The Football League for Sammy McIlroy's side that ended with an 11th-place finish, causing a few shocks along the way.

Ken Waterhouse - Led Morecambe to huge success in their non-league days in the 1960s.

Dave Roberts - Managed Morecambe to their first piece of national silverware when they won the FA Trophy at Wembley in 1974 with victory over Dartford.

Jim Harvey - Led Morecambe from the Unibond League to the Conference after several years of going close.

Sammy McIlroy - The man who took Morecambe into The Football League for the first time in their history with victory over Exeter at Wembley.
